The Art Trail

OVERVIEW

The Art Trail

Paddington has long been a home of artists, art-lovers and the artistic, dating back to the early days of Australia’s post-modern art boom. When the Rudy Komon Art Gallery opened on the corner of Paddington St and Jersey Rd in 1959, a suburb’s love affair with galleries was born. These days, the neighbourhood has one of the highest concentrations of art galleries in a suburban area in the world. From the Paddington Art Precinct to Paddo’s eclectic back streets, galleries can be found inhabiting corner terraces, old factories, converted shopfronts and other nooks. Spend a weekend gallery hopping and be sure to look out for exhibition launches. Note on your travels some free pieces of street art including Refuge, a dazzling sculpture by Korban/Flaubert, at the corner of Windsor and Elizabeth streets, and George Raftopoulos’s The Prince of Paddington mural at Tuckerbox Café on William St.
