The Pub Trail

OVERVIEW

The Pub Trail

For two centuries, visitors and locals have been fed and watered at a series of pubs and inns that have become cornerstones of Paddington’s hospitality industry. Located on prominent corners and occasionally in back streets, these pubs have become cherished local institutions as integral to the fabric of the suburb as the terraces that line the streets. Recently, the community has fought against the gentrification of some of these venues into retail and real estate ventures, with locals working hard to preserve the pub tradition. The future for some of these treasures remains uncertain. But what is certain is the love locals have for their hotels, ranging from back street haunts, such as the Lord Dudley and the Four in Hand, to Oxford St stalwarts including The Royal, The Unicorn and The Paddington. Many now offer interesting restaurants, bars and accommodation as well as traditional drinking areas. Call in and try some vintage Paddington culture for yourself.
